An Ancient Nugget
Hugh Latimer was famous as a preacher
He was Bishop of Worcester (pronounced WOOS-ter) in the time of King Henry, but resigned in protest against the King's refusal to allow the Protestant reforms that Latimer desired. Latimer's sermons speak little of doctrine; he preferred to urge men to upright living and devoutness in prayer. But when Mary came to the throne, he was arrested, tried for heresy, and burned together with his friend Nicholas Ridley.
His last words at the stake are well known:
"Be of good cheer, Master Ridley, and play the man, for we shall this day light such a candle in England as I trust by God' grace shall never be put out."

piper is bad!
is that a photo of your bookshelf at home brother? that sure is a strong presence of macarthur and chuck swindoll...let me add one name to that...
john piper. his books and sermons of late have been such a blessing to me in my search for a much much deeper relationship with our God. let me recommend two books at this time - 'seeing and savouring Jesus Christ' and 'counted righteous in Christ'. 'seeing and savouring Jesus Christ' can be used and enjoyed by both believers and non-Christians (the chapters and the book as a whole is short and there is a wealth of information in each chapter). the book allows the lost to see Jesus and allows believers to savour their Lord afresh. remember we have 144 of these books to distribute as we approach Christmas - please pray for this outreach we are undertaking. the second book absolutely blew me away - 'counted righteous in Christ' should be read by every new believer and even by spiritually mature brothers and sisters. this book took me about 3 weeks to read on and off - the third chapter was tough going but what a reward at the end - to fully grasp that the Lord has imputed / credited to us His righteousness through faith in Him is a most glorious truth to lay hold of and live!

i am not but i know I AM (Louie Giglio)
I read this book over a year ago and its still knocking around my sitting room; it is one of my favourites that I highly recommend to all!
The following is the revue thing from the back of the book;

importance of christian literature reading
John Wesley told his people that if they didnt become a people of reading that the methodist church would be dead in one generation! ............ he was right and die it did! From such a great starting point it fell so far.
Im not saying this to get at any one or any church, im just stateing the facts!
He said to those that wished to join the ministry or those who realy wished to be serrious that they should be reading five hours out of every twentyfour! I used to think impossible but counting up time i spend on earthly trivial things i realised its about redeaming the time, paul told us " do things onto edification." Its each ones personal choice after that!
